How book reading has changed my life during pandemic.

After school I had stopped reading altogether. Only reading I did was for some paperwork that I had to do every now and then. But, Last year in the rise of pandemic I started reading books it was a time when there was a little sadness and depression in the air. So I started to read. At first I started with reading self help books then finance then some novels and autobiographies now I read almost all kinds of books. I have read more than 15 books in this year to know what they are follow me on goodreads here. I don’t mean to say that reading changed my life as in now I am a super human and have acquired lot of money and wisdom or things like that. Instead It has given me at least 10% increase in the overall aspects of my life.

There are few things I learnt through reading that could never have otherwise and I am listing them below so check it out and see if this impresses you and gets you to start reading books of your own.

Improved Vocabulary

If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.

J.K. Rowling

I read mostly English books and needless to say because of this my vocabular has expanded ten folds. Now I don’t run out of words to describe a situation or an Idea and during Conversations I don’t keep repeating the same words again and again. By no means I have become an expert but the improvement is enough to get me to continue reading books.

Better at writing skills

When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes.

Erasmus

I have described myself as one of the worst writer I hated writing because I used to lack vocabulary and confidence for writing I used to review even my simple mails with at least 5 of my friends before sending but now I am the go to person for my teams to proof read their mails. Now I understand the tone of writing and the ways we can express our ideas and convince people and little by little I am able to exercise these techniques.

Better able to articulate my thoughts

I was terrible at expressing my ideas. Whenever I used to start with Expressing I used to get lost and my end message was very different from what I originally wanted to convey. Here reading helped I read some self help books and few books about conversation now I am able to convince and make friends easily.

Increased productivity

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Joseph Addison

Books like Atomic Habits that I read recently has helped me increase my productivity in work as well as in personal activities now I don’t waste my time in useless activities and am able to better manage my time and attention for better this one such thing is writing this blogs every day.

Knowledge

Reading brings us unknown friends.

Honore de Belzac

I have more things to talk about now with friends and peers. Recently I read a book called Sapiens and I enjoyed reading this a lot a lot of concepts and ideas of how our ancestors evolved was very eye opening for me and all such knowledge wants me to gain more such knowledge. I also read about human behaviors and how we are manipulated by ad companies and people for their benefits. So reading brings me to very interesting facts and stories that I would have been unaware had I not started reading.

Improved Creative & Imaginative thinking

I think we all are very Imaginative and we day dream all the day creating all kinds of stories and scenarios in our heads and here reading has given me more types of things to think about and extra creative scenarios if I want to become a fiction writer someday.

Overcame depression

Books were my pass to personal freedom.

Oprah Winfrey

This is the main reason why I started to read books. By the end of 2020 I was lost and depressed and I didn’t liked that feeling and wanted to overcome that I used to endlessly watch Instagram memes in order to save myself from depression. But it was only temporary solution and I wanted something permanent. During this time I came to know about good effects of reading books and how it can help overcome depression. 4 months later I can say I am now in better condition than I was before and now I find more things to be happy about and less things to be depressed.
