Life learnings from the movie Soul (2020)

I’m Just Afraid That If I Died Today My Life Would Have Amounted To Nothing.

I enjoy animated films. Because every animated film I’ve seen has some sort of message that has inspired me. Soul has a wonderful story, and the message it tries to convey is spot on. I’ll give you a brief summary of the film and the things I learned from it that you might have missed, and hopefully you’ll be inspired as well.

** spoiler alert**

Summary

The central theme of this film is discovering oneself and one’s purpose. At some point, we all wonder, “Why am I here?” “What should I be doing?” “What is my purpose here?” These are difficult questions to answer, and the soul movie helps us in exploring them.

So this person Joe, a pianist, has always felt that he is meant to play the piano and that he was born to do so. Luckily, he is given the opportunity to play with a well-known celebrity, Dorothea William. But he falls into a manhole, and his soul is now on its way to the great beyond. It is the place where you go after you die. Joe is not ready to die yet, so he manages to escape to a place called the Great Before, which is where the unborn souls are find their spark before taking birth on Earth.

Here is a soul called number 22 and this soul does not want to be born on earth. Joe mistaken for some other person is assigned as a mentor for soul 22. Joe takes help of 22 and some Mystic guys so he can get back into his body. Here Joe discovers so many people are sad and depressed.

Accidently, Soul 22 enters Joe’s body and Joes soul into a cat. Here, Soul 22 starts to enjoy earth. Here he finds joy in doing simple things like eating a pizza , listening to music. After a long fight and betrayal. Soul 22 gets his spark to get his earth ticket and Joe uses this earth ticket and gets his body back. Finally, Joe gets to play piano with Dorothea William. But he is not happy. He felt he would be very happy, but he wasn’t and felt disappointed as he thought he would feel different. Here Dorothea William tells Joe about a story of a fish. This story goes like….

“I heard this story about a fish, he swims up to an older fish and says: ‘I’m trying to find this thing they call the ocean.’ ‘The ocean?’ the older fish says, ‘that’s what you’re in right now.’ ‘This’, says the young fish, ‘this is water. What I want is the ocean!’”.

Learnings

When we are focused on one thing, we can lose sight of so many other things that are right in front of us. Joe would have lived a much more vibrant life if he had enjoyed all of his moments and the entire journey of his life rather than focusing solely on playing piano and making it his only passion and goal in life.

We try to find a special purpose and meaning in life, something that will make us feel significant in comparison to the standards of society, where we are made to believe that we are less because we are not on the stage or focusing on achieving something big rather than appreciating what we already have.

You only have one life, so fight for it and make it count. live a life you will not regret living again

One more thing The destination is the journey itself.
